Rainbow Cottages in France

Two cottages for holiday letting in the small hamlet of
St André, 22480 St Nicolas du Pélem in central Brittany, France.

Small Cottage

Small Cottage is for two people and is just that – a small, newly renovated cottage with combined sitting room, dining and kitchen area and upstairs a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom.

Middle Cottage

Middle Cottage is also newly renovated, has two bedrooms, one with a 6ft/180cm wide bed and the other with a small 4ft/120cm double bed. The sitting room has a massive stone typically Breton fireplace and the dining area and kitchen are all in the same large space.

The  cottages   are  non-smoking  areas   but,  of  course, you  may  smoke when you are  completely  outside  the  buildings.

The cottage at the far end of the photograph below has a utility area with washing machines, lines and airers for drying washing if the weather isn’t kind.

There is a gym area and a gas BBQ too.

Both cottages are comfortable and well equipped.  They each have a logburner with logs supplied, television with basic UK television channels, wifi, lots of paperbacks etc. etc. The garden is south-facing with chairs and tables for relaxing and dining outside.  The large rabbit park with occupants Ruby, Bella and Bridget is opposite Small Cottage.

I have three cats who wander around the garden and 200 metres up the lane you will find my barn and fields with two goats, five sheep, hens, cockerels, ducks and geese – here are four of the Muscovies, veggie patches and a fairly productive polytunnel. Any offers of weeding are gratefully accepted!

Lanrivain is the nearest village to Rainbow Cottages. It is 1.5 miles away and has two bars, one is a restaurant as well, a church, small grocery shop, post office and boulangerie.

The nearest town is St Nicolas du Pélem which is 3 miles drive. There you will find two banks, a post office, several bars and restaurants including a Pizzeria and Creperie, boulangerie, petrol station, SuperU supermarket, garages, a small market on Friday and Saturday mornings, doctor and dentist practices, taxi company, swimming pool with flume etc. etc.

There are many lovely walks around this area in the lanes or through the woods alongside streams and lakes. I have bicycles available for guests so you can always take a break from driving and explore the area getting some exercise at the same time.

Lac de Guerledan is about 25 minutes away. It is a huge lake with many water sport facilities, restaurants and a beach. The north coast of Brittany is about 45 minutes by car and the south coast about 75 minutes.

Within walking distance is a School Museum at Bothoa where you can experience life as a school child as it was at the beginning of the last century. There are many exhibitions and cultural activities throughout the summer months, not least being the Son et Lumière at Abbaye de Bon Repos which is 20 minutes drive.

The abbey’s most spectacular event takes place in August each year and recounts Brittany’s history from Neolithic times to the Revolution. The show uses more than 400 actors, 1200 costumes, 45 dogs and 35 horses and ends with an unforgettable parade of 500 flaming torches as well as a firework display.

On Sunday mornings there is a lovely market at Abbaye de Bon Repos, alongside the Nantes/Brest canal. Several bars and restaurants with outside seating make it a great place to while away the hours.

The hamlet of St André is a quiet place with just seven houses and nine permanent residents. It’s somewhere to come and unwind, relax and be yourselves.
